Women’s Soccer Earns Top 25 Preseason Ranking

(KANSAS CITY, Kan.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team will start the 2017 campaign in the national rankings, as they appear 22nd in the United Soccer Coaches (formerly the NSCAA) NCAA Division III Preseason Coaches Poll, released last week.

The Tartans finished 2016 with an 11-6-1 record and second-place showing in the University Athletic Association (UAA) which sent four teams to the 2016 NCAA Championship tournament. The Tartans were one of those teams and made the program's fifth straight appearance on the national stage after holding a ranking as high as six during the season.

The 2017 Tartans return eight starters from last year's team, welcome eight freshmen, and will kick off the season at home on Friday, September 1 against Frostburg State University in the DoubleTree Tartan Cup at 5:00 p.m.

Five teams on Carnegie Mellon's schedule are in the preseason top 25 including non-conference opponents Messiah College and Nazareth College. The Tartans will face No. 2 Messiah on the road Saturday, September 16 and will host No. 24 Nazareth on Tuesday, October 3.
