#15 Tartans Score Nine in Shutout Win Against Allegheny

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The 15th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team hosted Allegheny College on Wednesday, September 20 and topped the Gators 9-0. Both junior Kaily Bruch (Glenview, Ill. / Glenbrook South) and sophomore Ryan Casey (Pasadena, Calif. / Polytechnic) tallied two goals in the win which moved the Tartans to 4-1-1.

Sophomore Camille Williams (Cincinnati, Ohio / The Seven Hills School) played the ball from the center circle out wide to senior Katie Strycharz (Potomac Falls, Va. / Dominion) who dribbled to the outside of the 18-yard box where she served the ball to the far post. The service flied over the keeper's head and into the corner of the net for her second goal of the season and a 1-0 lead for the Tartans in the second minute of action.

Four minutes later, senior Haili Adams (Kirkland, Wash. / Juanita) took a shot from the center of the field just outside the penalty arc that was out of the reach of Allegheny keeper, Maya Hackman, which added to the Tartan lead. The goal was the third of the season for Adams. Adams was passed the ball from Casey after senior Alex Moy (Southborough, Mass. / Algonquin Regional) played a pass up field that Casey tapped to Adams.

In the 24th minute, senior Tori Iatarola (West Dundee, Ill. / Loyola Academy) fired a low shot from right to left after Adams played the ball back to Strycharz who centered a pass to Iatarola.

Bruch added to the score line in the 30th minute with a break-away goal after receiving a pass forward from senior Grant Wilmer (Atlanta, Ga. / Holy Innocents' Episcopal School).

The second half witnessed five goals by the Tartans, starting with a goal by Williams in the 56th minute. Williams deflected a corner kick by Iatarola. In the 59th minute, Casey put in her first goal of the game after freshman Kristen Chong (Fullerton, Calif. / Troy) played a ball over the top. Casey took a touch around the keeper and then finished for the score.

In the 62nd minute, Bruch scored her second goal of the game. Chong again earned the assist after she dribbled the ball toward the endline after receiving a pass from Abby Kuznick (Livingston, N.J. / Livingston). Chong then played the ball in front of the goal which Bruch finished before the keeper could grab it.

Sophomore Tara Durstewitz (Old Bridge, N.J. / Old Bridge) scored her first career goal in the 74th minute following a break away. Senior Sienna Stritter (Menlo Park, Calif. / Menlo School) played a ball wide which Durstewitz ran onto and took to goal before finishing to the center of the net.

Casey put in her fifth goal of the year in the 88th minute after a 2v1 opportunity with Adams.

Freshman Carolyn Botz (St. Louis, Mo. / Micds) earned the win while she split time with senior Sarah Mahler (Cincinnati, Ohio / Madeira) for the shutout.
