#15 Tartans Celebrate Seniors With 7-0 Win Against Westminster

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Senior Haili Adams (Kirkland, Wash. / Juanita) scored three times as the 15th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team celebrated its seniors following a 7-0 win against Westminster College on Sunday, September 30. The Tartans improved to 6-1-1 while the Titans fell to 5-3.

Adams opened the scoring in the ninth minute after receiving a pass from senior Katie Strycharz (Potomac Falls, Va. / Dominion). Adams received the pass with her back to the goal and turned, took a few short dribbles forward and fired a shot high through the hands of the keeper from 18 yards out.

One minute and 29 seconds later, Adams added to the score after a corner kick by senior Tori Iatarola (West Dundee, Ill. / Loyola Academy) was served to the back post. Junior Emily Tolmer (Bridgeville, Pa. / Chartiers Valley) collected the ball that the defense couldn't clear, passed the ball back to Adams who finished a shot in traffic.

Freshman Ashley Akin (Minnetonka, Minn. / Hopkins) scored her first career goal in the 33rd minute on a left-footed bullet. Iatarola passed the ball forward and Akin took control of the pass off a defender, curled her dribble to the left and took the shot.

Another career achievement was met by senior Allie Furlo (Wilton, Conn. / Wilton) with nine seconds remaining in the half. The senior forward was at the back post when freshman Abby Kuznick (Livingston, N.J. / Livingston) made a move around a defender on the end line and passed the ball across the box for Furlo to deposit in the back of the net.

Sophomore Ryan Casey (Pasadena, Calif. / Polytechnic) put in her seventh goal of the season four minutes and 26 seconds into the second half. She dribbled around a defender, cut it to her left, and put a left-footed shot to the far post.

Adams scored her third goal of the game in the 54th minute with a right-footed strike. Junior Tessa Allen (Manhattan Beach, Calif. / Bishop Montgomery) passed the ball up field to senior Sienna Stritter (Menlo Park, Calif. / Menlo School) who touched it outside to Adams before the shot.

In the 65th minute, Tolmer lofted a pass over the defense that Kuznick touched across the goal line to senior Grant Wilmer (Atlanta, Ga./Holy Innocents' Episcopal School) who finished a shot to the open net.

Freshman Carolyn Botz (St. Louis, Mo. / Micds) and senior Sarah Mahler (Cincinnati, Ohio / Madeira) split time in net for the Tartans to earn the shared shutout.
