Adams Honored as Scholar All-America by United Soccer Coaches

(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) – Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer senior Haili Adams (Kirkland, Wash./Juanita) received another honor from United Soccer Coaches, as she was named a Scholar All-American on Friday, December 8. Adams was named a first-team member after being named to the first team for the East Region.

On the field, Adams led the Tartans in goals scored with 12 and points with 27. The senior finished the year with seven game-winning goals and scored both game winners in the NCAA tournament, as the Tartans won both their first round and second round games by 1-0 scores. With her 12 goals, she owns the senior class goal scoring mark, surpassing Savina Reid's 11 goals scored in 2014. Adams was also honored as a first-team All-American by the United Soccer Coaches.

Off the field, Adams routinely volunteers for the campus 1,000Plus service day that brings together students, faculty, staff, and alumni to volunteer at multiple sites throughout the greater Pittsburgh area. On those days she helped to revitalize the exterior of a Pittsburgh preschool and worked at a clothing drive. The senior is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council and worked the CMU women's soccer camp.

Adams was a researcher for the Madagascar Field School Program in 2016 and interned at UPMC for 10 weeks during the 2016 spring semester. The senior currently spends six hours a week in the Minden Lab on campus as a researcher for Proteomics Platoon and has done so for the past five semesters.

Adams carries a 3.61 GPA as a biological sciences major with a minor in Hispanic Studies. She is a member of Nu Rho Psi, the National Neuroscience Honor Society, where she holds the position of service chair. Adams is also in Phi Sigma Iota, the International Foreign Language Honor Society, and is the club secretary for Love Your Melon, an organization at Carnegie Mellon that helps promote gear to raise awareness for children's cancer.

Only juniors and seniors with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average and who start more than 50 percent of all games during the season are eligible to be nominated by their coach for the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America program.
