Tolmer's First Half Goal Propels #11 Tartans to 1-0 Win Against #16 Lynchburg

(SALEM, Va.) - A goal by senior Emily Tolmer (Bridgeville, Pa. / Chartiers Valley) in the 32nd minute held up in a 1-0 neutral site win for the 11th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team against 16th-ranked University of Lynchburg on Saturday, September 8. The Tartans, now 2-0-1, traveled to Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia, for the Roanoke Invitational Soccer Showcase where they'll face Roanoke on Sunday.

The Tartans put five shots on goal in the first half with Tolmer scoring off a corner kick by freshman Maddy Lui (Basking Ridge, N.J. / Ridge) in the 32nd minute. The shot by Tolmer was the fourth of the half on goal for the Cardinal and Gray while the Tartan defense limited the Hornets to just one shot attempt in the first 45 minutes with the attempt going wide of the goal in the 12th minute.

The stats were reversed in the second half with the Tartans only getting one shot off but sophomore keeper Carolyn Botz (St. Louis, Mo. / MICDS) stopped both of the Hornets' shots on goal.

Botz earns her first shutout of the season while Lynchburg was held scoreless for the first time this season.

The Tartans next face host Roanoke on Sunday at 5:30 p.m.
