Tartans Close Road Trip with 2-0 Win at Roanoke

(SALEM, Va.) - The 11th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team closed a road trip to Virginia with a 2-0 victory at Roanoke College on Sunday, September 9 in the final match of the Roanoke Invitational Soccer Showcase. The Tartans move to 3-0-1 for the year while Roanoke drops its first contest and is 1-1-2.

Sophomore Carolyn Botz (St. Louis, Mo. / MICDS) earned her third win in net for the Tartans after making three saves for the game.

Freshman Daisy Gollis (Irvine, Calif. / Tarbut V'Torah) scored the game winner in the last few minutes of the first half and shortly after entering the game. Her unassisted shot in the 42nd minute got by the keeper to the upper right corner.

Gollis' shot was the fourth of the half for the Tartans with the other three all off frame. Botz made two of her saves in the first period when Roanoke got off three shot attempts against the Tartan defense.

Two shots in the second period were stopped by Roanoke goalie Chris Martin before Botz made her final save in the 73rd minute.

Senior Tara Durstewitz (Old Bridge, N.J. / Old Bridge) gave the Tartans an insurance goal in the 77th minute when she finished off a pass from senior Katja Brackelmanns-Puig (Randolph, N.J. / Randolph).

The Tartans return home for three straight games beginning with Grove City College on Wednesday, September 12 at 7:00 p.m.
