Bruch's Goal Lifts #12 Tartans to 1-0 Victory

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The 12th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team hosted Penn State Behrend on Tuesday, October 2 in non-conference action. After at hour-and-a-half weather delay, the Tartans closed out the Lions with a 1-0 victory. The Tartans are now 7-2-1 for the season while Behrend falls to 5-6.

The goal for the Tartans came off the foot of senior Kaily Bruch (Glenview, Ill. / Glenbrook South) in the 28th minute.  The senior took a pass from junior Ryan Casey (Marina del Rey, Calif. / Polytechnic) and dribbled twice in the center of the field before firing a shot over the keeper from 25 yards deep. The goal for Bruch was her fourth of the season.

As the second half started, lightning forced the game to hault. The second half resumed with the Tartans controlling the pace of play. Junior Emery Noll (Matthews, N.C. / David W Butler) recorded the first shot of the half in the 63rd minute when Madi Jones had to punch it over the goal for the save. A minute later, Bruch had a shot from the corner of the 18-yard box stopped by Jones.

In the 75th minute, sophomore Kristen Chong (Fullerton, Calif. / Troy) put a header on frame that Jones swatted away. A minute later, Jones made two saves in a span of two seconds when she first stopped a shot off the foot of Casey and then the second off the foot of Chong.

The game ended with sophomore Andrea Sipos (Bel Air, Md. / Bel Air) recording the win in goal for the Tartans after playing the full 90 minutes.

The Tartans will continue four-game home stand on Saturday, October 6 when eighth-ranked Brandeis University visits Pittsburgh at 1:30 p.m.
