#21 Tartans Fall at Home to #1 Washington U.

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The 21st-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team hosted No. 1 Washington University in St. Louis on Sunday, October 14 for a University Athletic Association (UAA) contest. The Bears earned a 3-0 win to move to 13-0-0 and 4-0-0 while the Tartans fall to 7-5-1 and 0-4-0.

The first goal of the game came in the first two minutes when Darcy Cunningham dribbled into the box. The Tartan defense prevented her shot but the ball bounced off a Tartan defender and past sophomore Carolyn Botz (St. Louis, Mo. / MICDS) for an own goal.

Senior Kaily Bruch (Glenview, Ill. / Glenbrook South) had a shot go wide in the 10th minute and another blocked in the 31st minute as play was mostly contained to between the 18-yard boxes in the first period.

The Bears added to the score in the 50th minute when Taylor Cohen finished off a rebound off the post that was hit by a shot by Ariana Miles.

Maggie Crist headed in a shot in the 71st minute after a scramble in the box wasn't cleared by the Tartan defense.

The Tartans stopped the shutout in the 76th minute with sophomore Hannah Anderson's (Burke, Va. / Lake Braddock Secondary) first goal of the season. Her shot came after two Tartan shots were stopped by the defense and Emma Greenfield.

Less than a minute later, Cohen made the score 4-1 with a volley inside the box off a square service by Cunningham.

The Tartans will next travel to Nazareth College in Rochester, New York, for a 11:00 a.m. Saturday contest.
