Tartans Shutout Third Straight Opponent, Win 5-0

(ERIE, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team won 5-0 at Penn State Behrend on Saturday, September 28 to advance to 6-2-1 on the season and record its third straight shutout.

Freshman Alex Adams (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) scored her third game winner of the season when she opened the scoring in the 10th minute. The first-year forward was able to tap in a shot after a cross into the box.

It wasn't until the 43rd minute that the Tartans added to their advantage with a goal from sophomore Daisy Gollis (Irvine, Calif. / Tarbut V'Torah). A minute and 52 seconds later, Gollis scored again off a feed from sophomore Jocelyn Mayer (New York, N.Y. / The Dalton School).

Senior Andrea Sipos (Bel Air, Md. / Bel Air) started in goal for the Tartans and played 64 minutes, not having to make a save.

In the second half, junior Abby Kuznick (Livingston, N.J. / Livingston) put in a cross from freshman Helena Spencer (Warrenton, Va. / Patriot) in the 58th minute before she assisted on the game's final goal in the 65th minute that senior Tara Durstewitz (Old Bridge, N.J. / Old Bridge) finished.

The Tartans will continue action on Saturday, October 5 with their University Athletic Association (UAA) opener at Brandeis University (7-2). The match is slated to begin at 11:00 a.m.
