Adams, Legg Receive United Soccer Coaches All-Region Honors

(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) – Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer freshmen Alex Adams (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) and Rachel Legg (Kansas City, Mo. / Pembroke) were honored on the United Soccer Coaches All-Great Lakes Region team when the association announced the awards on Monday, December 2. Adams was selected to the first team while Legg represents the Tartans on the third team.

Adams leads the Tartans with 13 goals and six assists for 32 points with 11 of her goals coming during the regular season. Seven of her goals have been game-winning tallies which ties the school record for most game winners in a season. Her 13 goals is the most ever by a Tartan freshman and her 32 points ties the school's single-season mark which was previously set in 1994.

Adams was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week for the second time this season after scoring two goals and assisting on three during the opening weekend of the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship Tournament. The forward has recorded three multi-goal games this season and converted her penalty kick during the shootout to advance the Tartans to the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship national semifinals.

As a center back for the Tartans, Legg anchors the defense which surrendered seven goals in UAA play with a 4-3 record. During the NCAA tournament, Legg and the defense have helped secure four shutouts which brings the season total to 11. Legg was also honored by the UAA as an athlete of the week after the Tartans advanced to the NCAA national semifinal with a 3-0 victory and 0-0 tie in the sectional round. Legg scored the game-winning goal against No. 17 Ohio Northern University and helped shut down the Polar Bears and No. 19 University of St. Thomas Tommies to preserve the shutouts.

Ranked 25th nationally, the Tartans will continue their run for a national championship on Friday, December 6 at 11:00 a.m. in the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship national semifinal against No. 1 Messiah College. The game will be played at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
