Tartans Dominate in 4-0 Win at Grove City

(GROVE CITY, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team, now ranked 23rd in the United Soccer Coaches National Poll, dominated action in a 4-0 win at Grove City College on Wednesday, September 15. A pair of juniors scored their first goals of the season with the team's leading scorers also registering more points to lead the team to a 5-1 record.

Junior Nikki Hasson (Torrance, Calif. / California Academy of Mathematics and Science) was the first to score for the Tartans in the 18th minute when she put in an unassisted goal.

Freshman Alana Frederick (New York, N.Y. / Sacred Heart Greenwich) scored her fifth of the season in the 29th minute off assists from junior Madeline Blakley (Strongsville, Ohio / Strongsville) and senior Maddy Lui (Basking Ridge, N.J. / Ridge).

The next two goals came in the second period when sophomore Cecelia Dieterich (South Paris, Maine / Oxford), the team's leading scorer, put in her sixth of the season off a feed from junior Helena Spencer (Warrenton, Va. / Patriot).

Spencer then registered her first of the season in the last two minutes of the game off an assist from senior Jocelyn Mayer (New York, N.Y. / The Dalton School).

Graduate student Carolyn Botz (St. Louis, Mo. / MICDS) earned the win in net for the team, making two saves for the game while the defense only surrendered four shots. The first save by Botz came in the 33rd minute with the second coming in the 85th minute.

The Tartans remain on the road for their fourth straight game when they travel to Wittenberg University for a 4:00 p.m. contest on Sunday, September 19.
