Tartans Held to Tie at Rochester

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) - The 15th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team was held to a 0-0 tie while putting six shots on goal at the University of Rochester on Friday, October 15. The Tartans are now 2-0-1 in University Athletic Association (UAA) play and 9-2-1 overall. The Yellowjackets tie for the second straight game and are now 5-3-3 and 0-1-2 in the UAA.

Carnegie Mellon dominated the second overtime period taking four shots with two on goal that were saved by two-time UAA Defensive Player of the Week Emma Schechter with another blocked with less than two minutes to play. Senior Jocelyn Mayer (New York, N.Y. / The Dalton School) took one of the shots that was saved and the shot that was blocked while leading the Tartans with five total shots for the game.

With the final seconds of regulation ticking down, graduate student Carolyn Botz (St. Louis, Mo. / MICDS) made her second save of the day off a free kick opportunity by Rochester's Megan Pung that was put low but down the center.

The second half started with two shots by Rochester that were blocked by Tartan defenders before senior Marissa McAfee (Cumming, Ga. / South Forsyth) put a shot on goal in the 51st minute. Junior Alex Adams (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) then hit the post in the 57th minute. That was the final shot of the half for the Tartans as Botz also made a save for the visitors in the 73rd minute.

The Tartans will next travel to Atlanta, Georgia, for an 11:00 a.m. contest against 25th-ranked Emory University (9-3-1, 1-2) who defeated eighth-ranked Case Western Reserve University, 2-1, Friday night.
