Frederick Named UAA Women's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) - Sophomore Alana Frederick was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Women's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week after leading the ninth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team to a 2-0 UAA home weekend against 15th-ranked Emory University and the University of Rochester.

Frederick scored the game-winning goal for the Tartans in the 1-0 win against Rochester on Sunday to keep the Tartans tied at the top of the UAA standings heading into the final week of contests. Frederick, who plays outside back for the Tartans after playing forward most of last year, scored her first goal of the season with a strike from the corner kick zone with a minute and eight seconds to play in the first half. Her service from the left side of the goal curled at the center of the frame and over the fingertips of the keeper for the game's only score.

Frederick's defense through both games also limited the opportunities for the Eagles and Yellowjackets, helping to secure victories for the Tartans.

Carnegie Mellon will travel to Case Western Reserve University on Saturday, November 5 in a head-to-head battle for the UAA Championship. First kick is set for 3:30 p.m.
