Legg Garners All-America Recognition in Final Season; Two Others Named All-Region

(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) – Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer senior Rachel Legg has garnered All-America recognition from United Soccer Coaches in her final season as a Tartan, earning recognition on the second team. The honor is the first of Legg's career and the third in three years for the Carnegie Mellon women's soccer program.

Legg, who was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Year, is the second Tartan defender to earn All-America recognition from the coaches association.

Legg started every game for the Tartans this season, leading the team in minutes played with 1,562. As a center back for the team, Legg was integral in the team's 11 shutouts and 0.74 goals against average. For the second time in three NCAA tournament appearances, the Tartans earned two shutouts in first and second-round play, with Legg being the anchor of both defenses.

Legg also garnered United Soccer Coaches All-Region IV honors for the second time, this year earning a first-team selection after bringing in a third-team honor as a freshman. Joining Legg on the all-region team are senior forward Alex Adams and sophomore midfielder Gemma Jefferson, as both were named to the second team.

Adams led the team in scoring with 11 goals and 24 points, starting 16 of 18 games played. Adams added to her Tartan career with her third all-region honor and became the program's all-time leader in goals scored and points with 37 and 85 with her three postseason goals. For her career, Adams scored seven goals in NCAA play while accumulating 17 points on the biggest stage.

Jefferson helped to lead the midfield for the Tartans, scoring three goals and assisting on two during the season. One of her goals came in the sectional semifinal of the NCAA tournament when she converted a penalty kick in the opening minutes of the second half. The regional award is the first of Jefferson's career and the first for a Tartan second-year player since 2017.
