Tartans Win Seven Events While Defeating Grove City and Rochester

(GROVE CITY, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team traveled to Grove City College to swim against the Wolverines and the University of Rochester, topping both by scores of 220-80 and 170-130, respectively. The Tartans won six swimming events for the day with freshman diver Machika Kaku (Irvine, Calif./University) winning the 1-meter diving event with 267.45 points.

The Tartans took second in the 200-yard medley relay in a season-best 1:49.89 to start the meet and finished the meet with a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay in another season-best 1:39.65.

Senior Megan Garvey (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) finished third in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:49.04, the best time for a Tartan this season, while freshman Kimberly Klausing (North Potomac, Md./Thomas Wootton) won the 500-yard freestyle for the third time this year in a season-best and team-leading 5:14.11.

Senior Soleil Phan (Irvine, Calif./Beckman) took second in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:58.13 with sophomore Shieri Suzuka (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) taking third in 1:59.86.

Sophomore Kira Singhaus (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) won the 100-yard backstroke in a season-best 1:00.05 with freshman Marisa Giglio (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton) finishing third in 1:01.20. Giglio later took second in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:13.50 with Singhaus finishing third in 2:15.33.

Freshman Natalie Kronfli (Potomac, Md./Stone Ridge) won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:30.76 and tied sophomore Felicia Wang (Mission Viejo, Calif./Capistrano Valley) for second place in the 100-yard breaststroke in identical 1:09.07 times.

Freshman Gillian Crews (Fairfax, Va./Oakton) picked up a win in the 100-yard butterfly in 58.03 with junior Kelley Sheehan (Poway, Calif./Poway) winning the 200-yard IM in 2:15.83.

In the 200-yard butterfly, freshman Deniesse VanKat (San Diego, Calif./Westview) was second in 2:10.09 with Garvey third in 2:11.53. Freshman Lauren Zemering (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) was second in the 100-yard freestyle in 54.01.

The Tartans will next host a tri-meet with Allegheny College and Washington & Lee University on Saturday, November 16 at 11:30 a.m.
