Tartans Swim at Western Pennsylvania Invitational

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – On Saturday, February 1 the Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team traveled to the University of Pittsburgh for the Western Pennsylvania Invitational.  The team competed against swimmers from Pittsburgh, Clarion University, California University of PA and Grove City College.

Freshman Gillian Crews (Fairfax, Va./Oakton) turned in the Tartans lone victory on the afternoon.  Crews touched the wall in 59.35 in the 100-yard butterfly.

Carnegie Mellon had four second-place showings Saturday with two coming from senior Soleil Phan (Irvine, Calif./Beckman).  Phan first turned in a season-best time of 10:36.09 in the 1,000-yard freestyle before touching in 5:09.81 in the 500-yard freestyle.

Freshman Felicia Wang (Mission Viejo, Calif./Capistrano Valley) and senior Megan Garvey (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) recorded the other second-place finishes for the Tartans.  Wang touched in 1:08.26 in the 100-yard breaststroke while Garvey ended the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:09.69.

Sophomore Kira Singhaus (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) placed fourth in both the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke events with times of 1:01.24 and 2:14.42.

Freshman Amanda Kuhn (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) earned fourth-place in the 50-yard freestyle after touching the wall in 25.16 while fellow freshman Allison Kirkby (West Chester, Pa./Conestoga) touched fourth in the 100-yard freestyle in 55.37.

The Tartans will next compete in the UAA Championships starting on Wednesday, February 12 in Atlanta, Georgia at Emory University.
