Tartans Extend Dual Meet Record to 7-0

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming team extended its dual meet record to 7-0 with victories against Washington and Lee University, 152-109, and Allegheny College, 217-34 on Saturday, November 14 at home.

The 200-yard medley relay team of sophomore Anna Wong (Solon, Ohio/Solon), senior Felicia Wang (Mission Viejo, Calif./Capistrano Valley), junior Gillian Crews (Fairfax, Va./Oakton) and freshman Jessie Li (Superior, Colo./Fairview) touched first with a team best time of 1:49.45. This goes down as the third straight meet the Tartans have won the 200-yard medley relay.

Wang led a sweep of the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing in a season-best 1:09.11. Just behind her was junior Natalie Kronfli (Potomac, Md./Stone Ridge) in 1:09.27 and freshman Hera Miao (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) in 1:09.86. The Tartans also swept the 200-yard breaststroke with sophomore Kimberly Hochstedler (Mishawaka, Ind./Penn) touching first in 2:31.46, freshman Cassidy Smith (Carlisle, Mass./Concord-Carlisle Regional) touching second in 2:32.41 and Kronfli taking third in 2:32.74.

Crews took first in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:13.76 before winning the 100-yard butterfly in and season-best time of 58.92. Junior Shieri Suzuka (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) took second in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:00.39, recording her own season-best time.

Li won the 50-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 24.75 while sophomore Tiana Marrese (Pittsburgh, Pa./South Fayette) was third in a seaon best 25.26. After a short break, Li returned to the water and won the 100-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 53.86.

Junior Allison Kirkby (West Chester, Pa./Conestoga) finished second in the 200-yard freesytle, shaving two seconds off her season best with a time of 2:00.56. In the 200-yard backstroke, senior Paige Sieffert (Ann Arbor, Mich./Saline) recorded a season-best time of 2:11.93 to finish second.

Sophomore Mary St. John (Bethesda, Md./Sidwell Friends School) led the Tartans in the 200-yard IM, finishing second in 2:16.58 while senior Corrine Bacigal () touched third in 2:19.48.

The Tartans closed the meet with a victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay, as Li, freshman Ellie Walstad (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Southeast), Marrese, and Kirkby touched in a team best 1:39.36.

The Tartans will be off from competition until December when they swim at the Total Performance Invitational hosted by Kenyon College on December 3-5.
