Winget Leads Tartans at Pittsburgh Meet

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team competed at the University of Pittsburgh against the Panthers, Clarion University, California University of Pennsylvania and Duquesne University on Saturday, January 30 in its last meet before the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships.

Sophomore Sarah Winget (Shelburne, Vt./Champlain Valley Union) recorded two career-best times on the day with the first coming when she won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:08.36. Her second career-best for the day came in the 400-yard IM when she finished in 4:37.53.

Sophomore Emma Shi (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) swam a season-best in the 200-yard freestyle when she touched seventh in 1:58.65 while freshman Ellie Walstad (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Southeast) touched fourth in the 100-yard butterfly, recording a season-best 58.73.

Freshman Allison Caron (Burnt Hills, N.Y./Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons) led the Tartans in the 100-yard backstroke touching in 1:00.26 before she set a season-best in the 200-yard backstroke touching second in 2:07.78. Junior Amanda Kuhn (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) recorded a season-best in the 100-yard backstroke touching in 1:00.52.

Senior Janay Parrish (Henryville, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) set a season-best in the 100-breaststroke while finishing fifth in 1:08.82. Freshman Jessie Li (Superior, Colo./Fairview) picked up a fifth-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle when she touched in 24.86 and returned to the water to place fourth in the 100-yard freestyle in 54.31.

Junior Allison Kirkby (West Chester, Pa./Conestoga) swam the 500-yard freestyle and placed fifth in 5:20.33.

The divers were also in action as junior Machika Kaku (Irvine, Calif./University) was the top Tartan in the 1-meter event collecting 224.75 points and senior Winona Li (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) was the top finisher for the Tartans in the 3-meter event recording 220.35 points.

The Tartans will be off of meet action until the UAA Championships which begin Wednesday, February 17. The meet will be hosted by the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York.
