St. John and Kaku Finish Season at NCAA Championships

(GREENSBORO, N.C.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team had two representatives at the 2016 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships held in Greensboro, N.C. at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. Sophomore Mary St. John (Bethesda, Md./Sidwell Friends School) was making her first appearance while junior Machika Kaku (Irvine, Calif./University) was there for the second time.

St. John swam three events with her best finish coming in the 200-yard butterfly on Friday when she finished 17th in 2:05.45. Her time was a career-best and just 15 tenths of a second off qualifying for the consolation final.

The sophomore also competed in the 200-yard IM and the 400-yard IM finishing 50th and 20th, respectively, in times of 2:11.36 and 4:32.50.

Kaku competed in the diving events for the second straight year. She placed 24th on the one-meter board with 327.55 points and 24th on the three-meter board with 324.00 points.
