Tartans Prep for UAAs at Western PA Invite

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team traveled to the University of Pittsburgh for the Western Pennsylvania Invite in a tune-up for the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships to be held February 8-11.

Freshman Emma Nicklas-Morris (Winston-Salem, N.C./RJ Reynolds) swam to a third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:56.12, as junior Mary St. John (Bethesda, Md./Sidwell Friends School) was third in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:10.04.

Junior Emma Shi (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) earned to fifth-place finishes for the day, first in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:08.20. She then placed fifth in the 100-yard butterfly in a season-best time of 59.31 with sophomore Ellie Walstad (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Southeast) just behind her in a season-best 59.40.

Nicklas-Morris later earned a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard IM when she touched in 2:11.44.

The UAA Championships begin Wednesday, February 8 and will take place at the University of Chicago.
