Kaku, St. John Finish NCAA Meet in Top 16

(SHENANDOAH, Texas) - Senior Machika Kaku (Irvine, Calif./University) and junior Mary St. John (Bethesda, Md./Sidwell Friends School) closed their respective appearances at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships with All-America Honorable Mention performances Friday, March 17.

Kaku, who competed at her third national meet, closed her career with a 12th-place finish on the 1-meter diving board to earn her second All-America Honorable Mention award in the event. Her 12th-place finish is the best of her career, as she tallied 398.50 points.

St. John earned a place in the 200-yard butterfly consolation finals with a career-best time of 2:05.15 in the preliminaries. The junior finished the finals with a 15th-place finish in 2:05.75 to record her first All-America Honorable Mention performance in her second consecutive trip to the national meet.

The Tartans are currently in 21st place with junior Kim Hochstedler (Mishawaka, Ind./Penn) left to swim on the final day of the meet, Saturday.
