Freestyle Relay Sets Provisional Qualifying Mark at Kenyon

(GAMBIER, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team started competition at the three-day Total Performance Invitational at Kenyon College on Thursday, November 30 with three events.

The 200-yard medley relay team of sophomore Mary Day (Warren, N.J. / Mount Saint Mary Academy), senior Kim Hochstedler (Mishawaka, Ind. / Penn), freshman Jessica Li (Clarksville, Md. / River Hill), and sophomore Victoria Feng (Hopkinton, Mass. / Hopkinton) placed fourth with a time of 1:45.80. It was the best time of the season for the Tartans in the 200-yard medley relay.

Sophomore Taylor Brown (San Antonio, Texas / Johnson) swam the 1,650-yard freestyle in a career-best time of 17:41.10 and placed 11th in the long distance event. Freshman Stefanie McMillan (Vancouver, Wash. / Skyview) finished the first 1,650-yard freestyle of her career in 18:26.24 and finished 16th overall.

The opening evening closed with the 800-yard freestyle relay. Sophomore Emma Nicklas-Morris (Winston-Salem, N.C. / RJ Reynolds), Li, freshman Megan Christy (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny), and senior Emma Shi (Penfield, N.Y. / Penfield) placed third with a time of 7:38.34. The time was six-tenths of a second off the school record and tops the NCAA Division III provisional qualifying mark of 7:39.30.

Competition continues with preliminaries at 9:30 a.m. on Friday with finals set to start at 5:30 p.m.
