Two Second-Place Finishes Pace Tartans at Kenyon Total Performance Invitational

(GAMBIER, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team continued competition at the Kenyon College Total Performance Invitational on Friday. The Tartans are third in the standings after the second day of competition.

Junior Emma Nicklas-Morris (Winston-Salem, N.C. / RJ Reynolds) picked up a second-place finish in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:31.33. Junior Taylor Brown (San Antonio, Texas / Johnson)  earned a fourth-place finish in 4:34.64 while junior Teagan Goforth (Portland, Ore. / Tualatin) touched fifth in 4:34.82. Sophomore Jessica Chau (Ridgewood, N.J. / Ridgewood) also swam in the top finals heat, finishing seventh in 4:38.61.

The Tartans finished 11th through 15th in the 100-yard butterfly with junior Jocelyn Chan (Hillsborough, Calif. / Menlo School) finishing with the best time in 58.67. Freshman Kierstyn Cassidy (Waynesville, Ohio / Waynesville) was the top Tartan in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing 10th overall in 1:56.09.

Four Tartans placed in the top 10 of the 100-yard breaststroke with senior Cassidy Smith (Carlisle, Mass. / Concord-Carlisle Regional) touching second in 1:05.63. Junior Victoria Feng (Hopkinton, Mass. / Hopkinton) was fourth in 1:06.46 with senior Hera Miao (Glen Ellyn, Ill. / Glenbard South) touching fifth in 1:06.48 and freshman Wendy Mo (Great Neck, N.Y. / Great Neck South) touching 10th in 1:08.53.

Junior Mary Day (Warren, N.J. / Mount Saint Mary Academy) was sixth in the 100-yard backstroke in 58.50, as Chau was eighth in 58.72.

In the relay events, Nicklas-Morris, sophomore Megan Christy (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny), Cassidy and freshman Stephanie Erickson (Voorheesville, N.Y. / Clayton A. Bouton) placed third in the 800-yard freestyle relay in 7:43.23 while Day, sophomore Aileen Yu (Ellicott City, Md. / Marriotts Ridge), Feng and Smith were fifth in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:48.31.

Sophomore Maddie Mianzo (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) placed third on the 3-meter board after tallying 404.30 points following 11 dives to lead the Tartans.

Competition concludes on Saturday with the 1,650-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly, 400-yard freestyle relay and 1-meter diving.
