Two Women Earn Spots to Compete at NCAA Championships

(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.) – Junior Emma Nicklas-Morris (Winston-Salem, N.C. / RJ Reynolds) and sophomore Jessica Chau (Ridgewood, N.J. / Ridgewood) of the Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team will compete at the 2019 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. The championships will be hosted by the Old Dominion Athletic Conference and the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina, on March 20-23.

Nicklas-Morris is a veteran of the NCAA Championships having swam at the meet as a freshman and sophomore. This year, Nicklas-Morris was invited to the meet after qualifying 16th in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:26.91. She will also be swimming the 200-yard butterfly and 200-yard IM. The junior's time of 2:05.00 in the 200-yard butterfly is seeded 23rd while her mark of 2:06.97 in the 200-yard IM is 31st.

Last year, Nicklas-Morris finished seventh in the 400-yard IM, 13th in the 200-yard IM, and 16th in the 200-yard butterfly. She also earned All-America honors in the 200-yard IM (eighth place) and 400-yard IM (fifth place) as a freshman.

Chau had her best swim of the season in the 200-yard backstroke at the Kenyon Fast Chance meet to earn the second entry to the NCAA Championships for her career. Her time of 2:02.38 seeds her 13th overall for the race. She'll also swim in the 200-yard IM and 400-yard IM similar to last year's meet where she competed in the same three events and finished as an All-America Honorable Mention in the 200-yard backstroke with a 13th-place result.
