Tartans Open at Relay Meet Against University of Pittsburgh

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team began the season Friday, September 27 with a relay meet at the University of Pittsburgh.

The 400-yard medley relay of senior Emma Nicklas-Morris (Winston-Salem, N.C. / RJ Reynolds), junior Jessica Chau (Ridgewood, N.J. / Ridgewood), freshman Aidan Pinto (Rockaway, N.J. / Morris Hills), and freshman Tiffany Tseng (Westford, Mass. / Westford Academy) finished third in 4:12.20.

The 500-yard freestyle crescendo relay with the first leg a 50-yard distance, the second a 100-yard distance, the third a 150-yard distance, and the final leg a 200-yard freestyle, saw the Tartans touch sixth in a final time of 4:48.19. Freshman Rachel Fuechtman led off the relay, with freshman Mathea Myhrvold (Oslo, Norway / Wakefield) swimming second, junior Megan Christy (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) third, and freshman Clarisee Brown fourth.

The Tartans took third in the 300-yard backstroke relay with Tseng swimming the first 100 yards in 1:00.50 seconds. Chau swam second and senior Mary Day (Warren, N.J. / Mount Saint Mary Academy) had the final 100 yards to touch in 2:58.70.

The top 300-yard breaststroke relay was swam by freshman Evan Guo (Flushing, N.Y. / Townsend Harris), Brown and Pinto. The trio finished fifth in 3:31.89.

The top 300-yard butterfly relay for the Tartans was by Tseng, Nicklas-Morris, and senior Sophy Peng (Fremont, Calif. / American) with a final time of 3:07.35 for sixth place.

The last relay of the meet was the 200-yard medley with Day, freshman Reilly McManus (Ridgefield, Conn. / Rye Country Day), Tseng, and Myhrvold finishing in 1:54.20.

The Tartans will host an intersquad meet next on Saturday, October 12 before traveling to Gambier, Ohio, for the Kenyon Relays on Saturday, October 19.
