Tartans Win Dual with Case Western Reserve

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team hosted Case Western Reserve University on Homecoming and defeated the Spartans in a dual meet, 201-97. The Tartans opened the meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay before winning 11 other events.

Freshman Clare Brown (Grantham, N.J. / Lebanon) swept the distance freestyle events. Her time of 10:43.19 in the 1,000-yard event was five seconds faster than the second-place finisher while her time of 5:14.55 in the 500-yard freestyle won by more than three seconds.

Freshman Tiffany Tseng (Westford, Mass. / Westford Academy) won three races, touching first in the 100-yard backstroke in 58.25, the 200-yard backstroke in 2:06.73, and the 100-yard butterfly in 58.17. She was the only finisher to break one minute in the 100-yard butterfly.

Senior Emma Nicklas-Morris (Winston-Salem, N.C. / RJ Reynolds) won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:10.92

Freshman Mathea Myhrvold (Raleigh, N.C. / Wakefield) raced to a first-place showing in the 50-yard freestyle in 25.17 with freshman Rachel Fuechtman (Hinsdale, Ill. / Hinsdale Central) touching second in 25.55. Myhrvold also won the 100-yard freestyle in 54.24 ahead of Nicklas-Morris in second with a time of 54.70.

Freshman Eva Guo (Flushing, N.Y. / Townsend Harris) was also a winner, as she out touched Kelly Moton of Case Western Reserve by .03 with a time of 2:28.96 in the 200-yard breaststroke.

Junior Maddie Mianzo (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) earned first place on the 1-meter board for the second straight meet with a score of 249.45 after six dives. Junior Lillie Widmayer (Old Bridge N.J. / West Windsor Plainsboro) was first on the 3-meter board with 260.85 points after six dives while Mianzo was second with 246.97 points.

Next up for the Tartans is a road meet at Grove City College on Saturday, November 2 at 1:00 p.m.
