(MORGANTOWN, W.Va.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming team began the three-day competition at the West Virginia University Invitational against four Division I teams and another Division III team on Thursday, November 21.

Senior Taylor Brown (San Antonio, Texas / Johnson) was 19th overall in a season-best time of 5:03.97 in the C Final of the 500-yard freestyle while freshman Clare Brown (Grantham, N.J. / Lebanon) placed 21st with a season-best time of 5:04.97.

Senior Emma Nicklas-Morris (Winston-Salem, N.C. / RJ Reynolds) placed eighth in the 200-yard IM with a season-best time of 2:06.33.

Sophomore Madeline Hoedemaker (Pennington, N.J. / Hopewell Valley Central) and freshman Mathea Myhrvold (Raleigh, N.C. / Wakefield) paced 26th and 27th, respectively, in the 50-yard freestyle touching in 24.37 and 24.38 for season-best times. Myhrvold swam an exhibition heat and finished even faster in 24.06.

The 200-yard freestyle relay of freshman Tiffany Tseng (Westford, Mass. / Westford Academy), Hoedemaker, freshman Bonnie Wang (Vancouver, BC / Collingwood School), and Myhrvold touched ninth in a season-best time of 1:36.66.

The 400-yard medley relay of Wang, freshman Eva Guo (Flushing, N.Y. / Townsend Harris ), Tseng, and Myhrvold finished 11th in 3:55.19 to close the night.

Friday's events include the 100-yard butterfly, 400-yard IM, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke, 200-yard medley relay, and the 800-yard freestyle relay.
