Tartans Win Home Dual Meet with Gettysburg

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team hosted Gettysburg College for its first home dual meet of the season. The Tartans topped the Bullets, 203-58, for their first dual meet victory.

Junior Bonnie Wang (Vancouver, BC / Collingwood School), freshman Jackie Ruhnke (Bridgewater, N.J. / Bridgewater-Raritan), freshman Carolann Kimock (Old Bridge, N.J. / Saint John Vianney) and junior Mathea Myhrvold (Raleigh, N.C. / Wakefield) led off the meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:50.36.

Wang was a multiple-even winner for the first time this year when she led a sweep of both the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard backstroke with times of 58.33 and 2:05.11, respectively. Her time in the 200-yard backstroke is a season-best.

Senior Kierstyn Cassidy (Waynesville, Ohio / Waynesville) won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:52.34 while freshman Abigael O'Donnell (Delanson, N.Y. / Duanesburg) won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:18.67 leading a sweep for the Tartans

The Tartans also swept both breaststroke events, both butterfly events and the 400-yard IM.

Sophomore Maya McAuley (Novato, Calif. / Novato) won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:08.79 as freshman Emma Kilbida (Broomfield, Colo. / Stargate Charter) won the 200-yard breaststoke in 2:26.13.

Kimock won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:09.66 and junior Miya Higuchi (Glendale, Calif. / Crescenta Valley) won the 100-yard butterfly in 59.65 while she out-touched Kimock by .08.

Myhrvold won the 50-yard freestyle in 25.14 and finished second in the 100-yard freestyle in 54.35 while freshman Reece Whatmore (Sarasota, Fla. / The Out-of-Door Academy) touched first in the 400-yard IM in 4:39.89, nearly 10 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of junior Tiffany Tseng (Westford, Mass. / Westford Academy), Kimock, sophomore Zoe Jacobs (Sunnyvale, Calif. / King's Academy), and Myhrvold closed the meet with a victory in 1:39.88.

The Tartans will next swim at home on Saturday, November 13 against Washington and Lee Universtiy at 12:00 p.m.
