Tartans Host Time Trials After Training Trip

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team hosted a home time trials meet a week after returning from its annual training trip in Miami, Florida.

In diving, junior Emilia Schwallie (Weston, Mass. / Weston) finished with 441.30 points after 11 dives on the 1-meter board to win the event. Both she and freshman Kyndall Tatum (Highlands Ranch, Colo. / Arapahoe) recorded their second qualifying scores on the 1-meter board, as Tatum finished second with 428.05 points. On the 3-meter board, sophomore Kelli Kuramoto (Los Altos, Calif. / Los Altos) placed second with 301.75 points after six dives and Schwallie was third with 272.20 points.

Swimming highlights:

Junior Bonnie Wang (Vancouver, BC / Collingwood School) won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:04.39, the 100-yard backstroke in 58.61, and the 200-yard IM in 2:09.84.

Senior Kierstyn Cassidy (Waynesville, Ohio / Waynesville) won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:44.54 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:14.45

Freshman Reece Whatmore (Sarasota, Fla. / The Out-of-Door Academy) won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:12.13 and the 400-yard IM in 4:41.68.

Freshman Katie Rock (Edgewater, N.J. / Bergen County Technical) won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:58.76 and placed second in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 11:03.31 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:25.30

Freshman Emma Kulbida (Broomfield, Colo. / Stargate Charter) won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:27.29 ahead of senior Aidan Pinto (Rockaway, N.J. / Morris Hills) in second in 2:27.87.

Senior Madeline Hoedemaker (Pennington, N.J. / Hopewell Valley Central) won the 100-yard freestyle in 54.72.

Junior Miya Higuchi (Glendale, Calif. / Crescenta Valley) won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:00.39 ahead of junior Tiffany Tseng (Westford, Mass. / Westford Academy) in 1:00.49.

Sophomore Maya McAuley (Novato, Calif. / Novato) won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:09.43 ahead of junior Eva Guo (Flushing, N.Y. / Townsend Harris) in 1:09.53.

Junior Mathea Myhrvold (Raleigh, N.C. / Wakefield) won the 50-yard freestyle in 25.12.
