Tartans Place Fourth at UAA Championships, Kuramoto Wins 1M Diving Event

(ATLANTA, Ga.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team placed fourth at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships which concluded on Saturday, February 11. The Tartans finished with 1,090 points, set two more school records, and witnessed another individual UAA Championship on the final day.

Top Performances

  • Junior Kelli Kuramoto earned her first UAA Championship after scoring 468.65 points on the 1-meter diving board.
  • Freshman Eliana Szabo set a new school record in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.41 which placed her sixth in the event and provisionally qualified her for the NCAA Championships.
  • Freshman Annie Wang recorded an eighth-place finish in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:21.80.
  • Senior Bonnie Wang touched fifth in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:03.02 while freshman Savannah Xu was sixth in the event in 2:03.29.
  • Freshman Katie Makarska earned a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:21.72.
  • Freshman Audrey Soetanto was fifth in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:05.74 while sophomore Carolann Kimock was eighth in 2:09.38.
  • The 400-yard freestyle relay of senior Tiffany Tseng, Szabo, freshman Grace Malinger, and senior Mathea Myhrvold closed the meet with a school-record time of 3:27.75 to place fourth and also provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championships.

Notes

  • Kuramoto is the fifth women's diver to win the 1-meter event at the UAA Championships and the first since Julia Pavia won it for the second time in 2005.
