Tartans Run Win Streak to Four with 9-0 Victory Over Kenyon

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The eighth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis ran its win streak to four with a 9-0 win over Kenyon College on Saturday, April 19 on its home courts in Pittsburgh, Pa. The Tartans are now 15-3 on the year while the Ladies fall to 8-10.

The number three doubles pair of senior Katie Cecil (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View) and junior Lydia Utkin (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome) took the first point of the match with an 8-2 win over Abigail Younger and Claire Cohen. Junior Angela Pratt (Saratoga, Calif./St. Francis) and freshman Nicholle Torres (Weston, Fla./Great Neck South) echoed that score at number two doubles to give the Tartans a 2-0 advantage.

The number one pair of junior Bryn Raschke (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines) and freshman Vanessa Pavia (Thornwood, N.Y./Academy of our Lady of Good Counsel) added to the Tartans' lead with an 8-3 win over Taylor Diffley and Elise Altschuler after being down 3-2 and winning the final six games.

The Tartans added to their lead when Utkin won 6-0, 6-2 at number six singles over Heather Fantry. Shortly after, sophomore Abbey Hamstra (Wheatfield, Ind./Kankakee Valley) won 6-1, 6-1 at number five singles to seal the win for the home squad.

Sophomore Elizabeth Martin (St. Simons Island, Ga./Frederica Academy) was next to finish singles play, as she won 6-2, 6-1 at the number four position over Samantha Betts.

Closing out the match with wins for the Tartans was Torres at number three singles, 6-2, 6-4, Pavia at number two singles 6-2, 6-1 and Cecil at number one singles 6-1, 6-3.

The Tartans will next play in the University Athletic Association Championship tournament beginning Friday, April 25 in Orlando, Florida. Seeding for the tournament will be announced midway through the week.
