No. 7 Tartans Open Spring Tour with 9-0 Victory Against Rochester

(CLAREMONT, Calif.) - The seventh-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team opened its spring break tour against the top competition in Division III with a 9-0 win against the University of Rochester on Sunday, March 8. With the victory, the Tartans improve to 8-2 on the year.

Senior Bryn Raschke (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines) and freshman Cori Sidell (Redwood Shores, Calif./Carlmont) started the scoring with an 8-0 victory at No. 1 singles for their fifth straight win. Sophomore Vanessa Pavia (Thornwood, N.Y./Academy of our Lady of Good Counsel) and freshman Stacy Chang (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) then won 8-2 at No. 3 doubles before sophomore Nicholle Torres (Weston, Fla./Great Neck South) and freshman Katie Lai (Hagatna, Guam/St. Andrew's Episcopal School) won 8-2 at No. 2 doubles.

Raschke was the first to finish singles play, as she won 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 6 slot. Chang then sealed the match victory with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles.

Also winning was junior Brooke Tsu (Hillsborough, Calif./Burlingame) at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-0, Sidell at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-1, Torres at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-3 and senior Angela Pratt (Saratoga, Calif./St. Francis) at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-1.

After a day off, the Tartans will face fifth-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Tuesday, March 10 at 4:00 p.m. PDT.
