Tartans Win Home Contest Against Grove City, 9-0

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The seventh-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team hosted Grove City College on Monday, March 23, and defeated the Wolverines by a 9-0 score. The Tartans are now 11-3 on the year while the Wolverines fall to 8-5.

Seniors Bryn Raschke (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines) and Angela Pratt (Saratoga, Calif./St. Francis) played first doubles, defeating Caroline McGuire and Karolina Lagerquist, 8-3. At second doubles, senior Lydia Utkin (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome) paired with freshman Kalyani Narayan (Saratoga, Calif./Saratoga) to win 8-2, while juniors Elizabeth Martin (St. Simons Island, Ga./Frederica Academy) and Brooke Tsu (Hillsborough, Calif./Burlingame) played to an 8-0 win at third doubles.

In singles, Pratt won 6-1, 6-1 in the first slot as sophomore Nicholle Torres (Weston, Fla./Great Neck South) picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win in the second position.

Playing third singles was Tsu who won 6-0, 6-1 while fellow junior Abbey Hamstra (Wheatfield, Ind./Kankakee Valley) defeated Maddie Haskell 6-2, 6-0 at fourth singles. Utkin and Narayan also played singles, as Utkin won 6-0, 6-1 at fifth singles and Narayan won 6-1, 6-1 at sixth singles.

The Tartans will next face 11th-ranked Washington and Lee University on Saturday, March 28 in Lexington, Virginia. The two played in the opening round of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship in February with the Tartans prevailing, 5-4.
