No. 6 Tartans Win 8-1 Against No. 20 Mary Washington

(MONROEVILLE, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team, ranked sixth in the nation, defeated the 20th-ranked University of Mary Washington Eagles 8-1 on Saturday, April 4 on the indoor courts at The Club Life in Monroeville, Pennsylvania. The Tartans improve to 12-5 on the season.

The Tartans swept through doubles play starting with an 8-1 win at third doubles by sophomore Nicholle Torres (Weston, Fla./Great Neck South) and junior Brooke Tsu (Hillsborough, Calif./Burlingame). The No. 2 doubles pair of sophomore Vanessa Pavia (Thornwood, N.Y./Academy of our Lady of Good Counsel) and freshman Stacy Chang (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) then won 8-3 before senior Bryn Raschke (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines) and freshman Cori Sidell (Redwood Shores, Calif./Carlmont) won 8-5 at first doubles.

In singles, Pavia picked up the first win at in the first position, 6-1, 6-0, to make the score 4-0. Senior Angela Pratt (Saratoga, Calif./St. Francis) sealed the win with a 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-5) win at second singles.

The Tartans also won matches at third, fourth and sixth singles.

Carnegie Mellon will close its regular season with a match against Division II California University of Pennsylvania at home on Sunday, April 12. The match is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.
