No. 7 Tartans Close Regular Season with 7-2 Win

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team closed the regular season with a 7-2 win against Division II California University of Pennsylvania on Sunday, April 12 on its home court. The Tartans are now 13-5 while the Vulcans drop just their third match of the year and are 9-3.

Doubles play was key for the Tartans who won all three matches. Senior Bryn Raschke (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines) and freshman Cori Sidell (Redwood Shores, Calif./Carlmont) were the first to finish, as they won 8-5 at No. 1 doubles. Senior Angela Pratt (Saratoga, Calif./St. Francis) paired with sophomore Vanessa Pavia (Thornwood, N.Y./Academy of our Lady of Good Counsel) to win 8-4 at No. 2 doubles while junior Brooke Tsu (Hillsborough, Calif./Burlingame) and sophomore Nicolle Torres (Weston, Fla./Great Neck South) won 9-8 (7-5) at No. 3 doubles.

Tsu was the first to finish singles play as she won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles to give the Tartans a 4-0 lead.

The Vulcans then won at No. 2 singles before Pavia won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 singles to clinch the match. Torres was the next to finish and gave the Tartans a 6-1 lead with a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 3 singles.

Raschke finished the scoring for the Tartans with a 7-6(7-3), 6-3 victory at No. 6 singles.

The Tartans have two weeks off from competition as they get ready for the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship. Play begins Thursday, April 23 in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
