No. 7 Tartans Place Second for Third Straight Year at UAA Championship

(ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla.) - The seventh-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team placed second at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship for the third straight year on Saturday, April 25, falling 7-2 to second-ranked Emory University.

The Tartans just missed taking a 2-1 lead into singles play as Emory was able to pull out a tiebreaker at third doubles to go with its win at second doubles. Senior Bryn Raschke (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines) and freshman Cori Sidell (Redwood Shores, Calif./Carlmont) were victorious at first doubles, winning 8-6, against Anna Fuhr and Michelle Satterfield to give the Tartans a point.

Sophomore Vanessa Pavia (Thornwood, N.Y./Academy of our Lady of Good Counsel) won her fourth straight match and second at the UAA Championship when she topped the number one player in the South Atlantic Region, Beatrice Rosen, 6-2, 6-3 at first singles to make the score 3-2 in favor of the Eagles. Emory won the first singles point of the match at the second position.

Junior Brooke Tsu (Hillsborough, Calif./Burlingame) forced a third set at fourth singles but wasn't able to complete the comeback, falling 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.

Saturday marked the third year in a row the Tartans have faced the Eagles for the UAA Championship and ninth time overall.

The Tartans will now wait to see what the NCAA committee has in store, as they'll need an at-large bid to have a chance to play in the NCAA tournament for the 11th consecutive year. The bracket will be announced on Monday, May 4.
