Women’s Tennis Named ITA All-Academic Team; Eight Named Scholar Athletes

(SKILLMAN, N.J.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team was honored for the sixth straight season and 13th time in the last 14 years by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) as an ITA All-Academic Team. In addition, eight players were named ITA Scholar Athletes.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above and the women's team achieved a cumulative average of 3.47 for the year.

In addition to the team honor, senior Bryn Raschke (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines), juniors Abbey Hamstra (Wheatfield, Ind./Kankakee Valley), Elizabeth Martin (St. Simons Island, Ga./Frederica Academy)  and Brooke Tsu (Hillsborough, Calif./Burlingame), sophomores Margaret Anne Smith (Singapore/Singapore American School), Vanessa Pavia (Thornwood, N.Y./Academy of our Lady of Good Counsel) and Nicholle Torres (Weston, Fla./Great Neck South), and freshman Stacy Chang (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) were named Scholar Athletes. Both Raschke and Pavia amassed a 4.0 for the academic year.

In order to be eligible to be an ITA Scholar Athlete, a player must be a varsity letter winner, have a GPA of at least 3.50 and been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
