Women’s Tennis Named ITA All-Academic Team; Nine Named Scholar Athletes

(TEMPE, Ariz.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team was honored for the seventh straight season and 14th time in the last 15 years by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) as an ITA All-Academic Team. In addition, nine players were named ITA Scholar Athletes.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above during the last academic year and the women's team achieved a cumulative average of 3.59 for the year.

In addition to the team honor, seniors Abbey Hamstra (Wheatfield, Ind./Kankakee Valley) and Brooke Tsu (Hillsborough, Calif./Burlingame), juniors Margaret Anne Smith (Singapore/Singapore American School), Vanessa Pavia (Thornwood, N.Y./Academy of our Lady of Good Counsel) and Nicholle Torres (Weston, Fla./Great Neck South), sophomores Stacy Chang (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) and Cori Sidell (Redwood Shores, Calif./Carlmont), and freshmen Charlotte Deiss (Matthews, N.C./East Mecklenburg) and Jamie Vizelman (Highland Heights, Ohio/Mayfield) were named Scholar Athletes.

In order to be eligible to be an ITA Scholar Athlete, a player must be a varsity letter winner, have a GPA of at least 3.50 and been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
