#12 Tartans Top John Carroll at Home

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The 12th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team hosted John Carroll University for its first Division III match of the spring season after facing six opponents from Division I or II schools. The Tartans won the match 8-1 to move to 7-2 on the season.

The Tartans swept through doubles action with the number one pair of senior Nicholle Torres (Weston, Fla./Great Neck South) and junior Cori Sidell (Redwood Shores, Calif./Carlmont) winning 8-4. The freshmen duo of Vinaya Rao (Vernon Hills, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) and Courtney Ollis (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) won for the third time this weekend at second doubles, the time by an 8-3 score. Sophomore Jamie Vizelman (Highland Heights, Ohio/Mayfield) and junior Katie Lai (Hagatna, Guam/St. Andrew's Episcopal School) picked up a win at third doubles, 8-3.

Sidell recorded a 6-4, 6-2 win at number two singles with Vizelman winning, 6-2, 6-0, at third singles. Rao earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at fourth singles while Ollis was victorious at fifth singles, 6-2, 6-0. Lai picked up the final win in singles play by a 6-1, 7-6 score.

The Tartans will next travel to Murfreesboro, Tennessee, to face 11th-ranked Washington University in St. Louis in the opening round of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship on Friday, March 3. The match is scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. CT at the Adams Tennis Complex.
