#11 Tartans Fall in UAA Semifinal to Top Ranked Emory

(ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla.) - The 11th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team fell to top ranked Emory University, 7-2, in the semifinals of the University Athletic Association Championships Friday, April 21.  The championships this season are being played at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.  The Tartans are now 16-7 while the Eagles improve to 12-5.

The Tartans tandem of junior Katie Lai (Hagatna, Guam/St. Andrew's Episcopal School) and sophomore Jamie Vizelman (Highland Heights, Ohio/Mayfield) recorded the Tartans lone point in doubles play, as Carnegie Mellon trailed 2-1 at the start of singles. Lai and Vizelman won 8-5 at third doubles.

Junior Cori Sidell (Redwood Shores, Calif./Carlmont) picked up the Tartans second point of the match with her win in the two spot in singles. Sidell won by the scores of 4-6, 6-2, 10-2.

Carnegie Mellon will play at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 22 in the third-place match.
