Women’s Tennis Named ITA All-Academic Team; Five Named Scholar Athletes

(TEMPE, Ariz.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team was honored for the eighth straight season and 15th time in the last 16 years by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) as an ITA All-Academic Team. In addition, five players were named ITA Scholar Athletes.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above during the last academic year and the women's team achieved a cumulative average of 3.46 for the year.

In addition to the team honor, seniors Margaret Anne Smith (Singapore/Singapore American School) and Nicholle Torres (Weston, Fla./Great Neck South), junior Cori Sidell (Redwood Shores, Calif./Carlmont), sophomore Jamie Vizelman (Highland Heights, Ohio/Mayfield), and freshman Karena Zhang (Cary, N.C./Green Hope) were named Scholar Athletes.

In order to be eligible to be an ITA Scholar Athlete, a player must be a varsity letter winner, have an academic year GPA of at least 3.50, and been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
