Women's Tennis Downs Grove City 5-0 to Open Season

(GROVE CITY, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team opened its 2017-18 season with a 5-0 victory at Grove City College on Tuesday, September 5. The Tartans lineup consisted of six freshmen while the match was halted during singles play due to rain.

Elizabeth Schulz (Fresno, Calf./Clovis North) and Nila Ramaswamy (Sugar Land, Texas/Clements) gave the Tartans their first point of the match with an 8-1 win at No.3 doubles. Shortly after, Hannah Rosenfield (Manchester, England/Windemere Preparatory School) and Alex Iordache (Princeton, N.J./South Brunswick) won by the identical score at No. 2 doubles. Melissa Strome (West Bloomfield, Mich.) and Alexandra Cash (New Albany, Ohio) finished the sweep of doubles play with an 8-4 win at No. 1.

Ramaswamy and Iordache both won in straight sets in singles play to seal the Tartan victory. Ramaswamy won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles and Iordache won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4.

The Tartans will host their annual invitational this weekend, September 8-10.
