Two Tartans to Play in ITA Southeast Regional Singles Semifinals; Doubles Final to Feature Two Tartan Tandems

(FREDERICKSBURG, Va.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's' tennis team had two singles players advance to the semifinals and two doubles teams advance to the finals of the USTA-ITA Southeast Regional Women's Tennis Championship on Sunday. The regional is being held on the campus of University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

In singles play, sophomore Vinaya Rao (Vernon Hills, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) and freshman Hannah Rosenfield (Manchester, England/Windemere Preparatory School) advanced to the semifinals in singles play while the double tandems of senior Cori Sidell (Redwood Shores, Calif./Carlmont) and sophomore Courtney Ollis (Suffern, N.Y.) and Rao and freshman Melissa Strome (West Bloomfield, Mich.) will play each other for the regional title.

In the singles round of 16, Rosenfield defeated Caroline Mosberg of Mary Washington 6-3, 6-3. The freshman then ran into Sidell in the quarterfinals and battled with the senior before winning, 6-2, 6-4. Rao advanced to the semifinals with wins over Annika Kezman of Salisbury and Valerie Marshall of Washington & Lee.

The duo of Rao and Strome started play on Sunday with an 8-4 victory over Ashley Barrow and Kait Brogan of Mary Washington. They then topped Michelle Fleenor and Lauren Hassell of Washington and Lee, 8-5, in the semifinals. Sidell and Ollis defeated Marshall and Lilian Horsley of Washington & Lee, 8-3, in the quarterfinals before handing Mosberg and Rachel Summers of Mary Washington an 8-4 setback in the semifinals.

The semifinals of singles play will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Monday followed by the finals at 12:00 p.m. The doubles final will begin at 3:00 p.m.
