#10 Tartans Tripped Up by #2 Emory, 6-3, at ITA National Tournament

(CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.) - The 10th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team ran into second-ranked Emory University in the championship semifinal of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship on Saturday afternoon in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The Eagles were able to prevail, 6-3, moving the Tartans' record to 9-2 for the season.

The fifth-ranked doubles team of sophomore Vinaya Rao (Vernon Hills, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson) and freshman Melissa Strome (West Bloomfield, Mich. / West Bloomfield) won their number two match by an 8-5 score against Anna Fuhr and Stephanie Taylor.

The other two points for the Tartans came at fourth and fifth singles. Senior Katie Lai (Hagatna, Guam / St. Andrew's Episcopal School) topped Taylor, ranked 50th in the nation, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 while Strome won in the fifth position, 6-2, 7-5.

The Tartas will now face their third University Athletic Association (UAA) opponent of the weekend on Sunday in the third-place match when they play ninth-ranked University of Chicago at 8:30 a.m. at The McCallie School.
