Lai Honored as UAA Athlete of the Week

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) - Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis senior Katie Lai (Hagatna, Guam/St. Andrew's Episcopal School) was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week for her performance during spring break in California.

Lai and the Tartans went 1-1 for the week, defeating fifth-ranked Bowdoin College, 7-2. In that win, Lai sealed the team's win with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at fourth singles. Although the team lost 7-2 to 11th-ranked Amherst College, Lai earned both points. The first point came at third doubles with junior Jamie Vizelman (Highland Heights, Ohio/Mayfield), as the pair won 9-8 (7-3). Lai then won her fourth singles by a 6-2, 6-4 score to finish 4-0 in both matches.

The Tartans will next be in action on Saturday, March 31 when they host Washington and Lee University at 1:00 p.m.
