#9 Tartans Fall in UAA Semifinal Match to #10 Chicago

(ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla.) - The ninth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team ran into 10th-ranked University of Chicago in the semifinals of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship on Saturday, April 28 and fell 6-3 to the Maroons. The Tartans are now 18-4 for the season and will face 13th-ranked Washington University in St. Louis on Sunday in the third-place match.

The second doubles pair of sophomore Vinaya Rao (Vernon Hills, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson) and freshman Melissa Strome (West Bloomfield, Mich. / West Bloomfield) earned the first point of the match and put the Tartans head 1-0 with an 8-2 win against Catherine Xu and Daryn Ellison.

The Maroons went ahead 4-1 with wins at first and fifth singles before freshman Hannah Rosenfield (Manchester, England / Windemere Preparatory School) won 6-2, 6-2 at sixth singles.

It was Xu who won at third singles against junior Jamie Vizelman (), 6-3, 3-6, 6-0, to win match point for the Maroons before senior Katie Lai (Hagatna, Guam / St. Andrew's Episcopal School) earned a 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-5) win at fourth singles for the final point for the Tartans.

The match with Washington University in St. Louis will take place Sunday at 9:00 a.m.
