Six Players Named to All-UAA Women’s Tennis Team

May 14 - (ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Six Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis players were honored by the University Athletic Association (UAA) coaches on Monday with recognition on the 2018 UAA Women's Tennis All-Association Team. Senior Cori Sidell (Redwood Shores, Calif. / Carlmont) and sophomore Courtney Ollis (Suffern, N.Y. / Suffern) headline the list as first-team honorees.

Sidell earns first-team honors in both singles and doubles for the second consecutive season with both coming at the first position this year. The senior, who will continue play in both the singles and doubles bracket of the NCAA Championships next week, has a 16-8 singles record and a 17-9 doubles mark with Ollis. The first-team honor for Ollis at first doubles is her second All-UAA honor, as she was on the second team last year at second doubles.

Junior Jamie Vizelman (Highland Heights, Ohio / Mayfield), sophomore Vinaya Rao (Vernon Hills, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson), and freshman Melissa Strome (West Bloomfield, Mich. / West Bloomfield) were voted to the second team. Vizelman and Rao earned spots through their third and second singles positions, respectively. Vizelman earned her second second-team honor and finished the year with a 15-7 singles mark while Rao picked up her first singles honor and was 15-11. Rao and Strome paired at second doubles to earn the award and finished with a 24-3 mark. The pair also won the ITA Southeast Regional Doubles title and placed fifth in the nation at the ITA Oracle Cup.

Senior Katie Lai (Hagatna, Guam / St. Andrew's Episcopal School) earned a place on the honorable mention team at fourth singles. The senior completed her career with a 12-11 mark which included six wins against nationally ranked teams.
