#11 Tartans Place Fifth at ITA National Team Indoor Championship

(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) - The 11th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team placed fifth at the 2019 ITA National Team Indoor Championship on Sunday after taking down University Athletic Association foe, Washington University in St. Louis 5-2. The Tartans are now 6-2 overall while the 13th-ranked Bears move to 4-3.

Carnegie Mellon trailed 2-1 heading into singles play with the Tartans lone point coming at secodn doubles when juniors Vinaya Rao (Vernon Hills, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson) and Courtney Ollis (Suffern, N.Y. / Suffern) won 8-4.

The Tartans rebounded and picked up straight set wins at first, second, fifth and sixth singles to secure the 5-2 team victory. Freshman Danna Taylor (Orlando, Fla. / Circle Christian School) won 6-3, 6-4 at the top spot, as senior Jamie Vizelman (Highland Heights, Ohio / Mayfield) won 6-4, 6-1 at second singles.

Sophomore Alex Iordache (Princeton, N.J. / South Brunswick) and freshman Victoria Chang (Dublin, Ohio / Dublin Jerome) recorded the wins at fifth and sixth singles, respectively. Strome won by the scores of 6-4, 6-2 and Liberchuk won 6-1, 7-5.

The Tartans will be back on the courts in the Sunshine State on Saturday, March 9 when they play Swarthmore College in Orlando at 2:00 p.m.
