#10 Women's Tennis Downs #27 Denison

(GRANVILLE, Ohio) - The 10th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team traveled to Granville, Ohio and came away with a 7-2 win over the 27th-ranked Denison University Big Red. The Tartans improve to 10-5 overall while Denison is now 7-6.

The Tartans grabbed a 2-1 lead following doubles play with wins in the first and third spots. The Tartans top doubles team of sophomore Melissa Strome (West Bloomfield, Mich. / West Bloomfield) and freshman Danna Taylor (Orlando, Fla. / Circle Christian School) won 8-1 to claim the first point. The Cardinal and Gray tandem of sophomore Alex Iordache (Princeton, N.J. / South Brunswick) and freshman Janabelle Wu (San Jose, Calif. / Lynbrook) won 8-5 at third doubles.

Taylor won at the top spot in singles, 6-1, 6-3, before senior Jamie Vizelman (Highland Heights, Ohio / Mayfield) won at second singles, 6-2, 6-4, to give Carnegie Mellon a 4-1 advantage. Wu then sealed the win for the Tartans with a 7-6 (3), 6-3 at third singles.

Iordache won a straight set match at five singles by the scores of 7-6 (3), 6-2 and freshman Victoria Chang (Dublin, Ohio / Dublin Jerome) closed the scoring with a 6-2, 7-5 win at six singles.

The Tartans will next be in action on Sunday, March 31 against Division I Saint Francis University.
