#10 Tartans Top #12 Mary Washington; Fall to Duquesne

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The 10th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team hosted 12th-ranked University of Mary Washington on Saturday winning 9-0 for their 12th win of the season while dropping a 6-1 match to Division I Duquesne University.

In the win over Mary Washington, the Tartans swept through doubles action with a pair of 8-5 wins from the third and second doubles teams before the tandem of sophomore Melissa Strome (West Bloomfield, Mich. / West Bloomfield) and freshman Danna Taylor (Orlando, Fla. / Circle Christian School) completed the sweep with an 8-4 win at first doubles.

Strome was first to finish singles play with a 6-0, 6-1 win at fifth singles. Senior Jamie Vizelman (Highland Heights, Ohio / Mayfield) earned match point with a 6-2, 6-1 win at second singles.

Vizelman then claimed the Tartans lone point against the Dukes with a 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6) win at second singles.

The Tartans will entertain Christopher Newport University on Sunday at 10:00 a.m.
